Around the Little Pieces of Hope Studio

I have been spending a lot of time in my studio lately, and figured it was about time for me to show y'all around.

Once I moved back from Colorado after college, my sister graciously invited me to live with her in her new house in South Austin. Immediately I jumped on the invite, and made an old shed in the backyard into my Little Pieces of Hope studio. There are definitely some quirks with the shed as the previous homeowners constructed this building from scratch, but it has turned into my very own sanctuary. A space that is completely my own, and full of trinkets that all mean something special to me.

Although my work time differs from morning to morning, I have a pretty similar routine to start out the work day. Below is a quick video to show you how mornings are spent in the LPOH Studio.

Kate Choker

I get a lot of questions about where I shop for my clothes. One of my favorite places to get some cozy threads is....Target! Usually I like my tee's oversized, so more often than not I find myself wandering over to the Men's Department to see what goodies they have. Low and behold, I found this thermal longsleeve tee (on clearance) that is so ginormous I wear it as a dress.

Since I seem to borrow from the boy's more often than not these days, I like to add a touch of femininity to my outfits. In this case I paired my longsleeve "dress" with my favorite blanket jacket, a Goorin Bros Hat, a gold choker and some Free People booties.

small business saturday

Happy Small Business Saturday!

----------------------

Shopping small. A fairly new idea to some, and the only way to shop for others. My favorite part about shopping local, is meeting the people behind the brand. Not only do I enjoy hearing their start up story, but I love seeing the passion behind their eyes when they talk about the things they love.

There are so many benefits to supporting Small Businesses. One of them being, it creates jobs and keeps local residents employed... such as me! Without Small Businesses, Little Pieces of Hope wouldn't be where it is today.

Since starting LPOH I have been graciously greeted by many other small business owners and I honestly can't tell you how thankful I am for them. Small Businesses have helped me live my dream...and for that I am thankful.

One of the second reasons supporting Small Businesses is important, is it keeps your community creative and unique. Small Businesses and brands are the backbone of Austin. For as long as I can remember Austin's city slogan has been "Keep Austin Weird." Thanks to local companies, we can continue to be weird even through all this transition and growth. Small businesses are the ones who helped Leslie find all his extravagant clothing (or lack there of). Small Businesses are the ones who help feed the homeless...and the hung over. Small businesses are the ones who change the world, and for that I am thankful.

LONG LIVE AUSTIN, & LONG LIVE SMALL BUSINESSES!

Little Pieces of Hope + Still & Sea

Thank you so very much to everyone who came out this Saturday to the Little Pieces of Hope trunk show at Still & Sea. It was so great to visit with some old friends in Austin, while also meeting some new ones.

Still & Sea was the absolute perfect place to kick off the first day of Summer. Not only was I surrounded by good friends, but also BEAUTIFUL swimwear. Brigitte, the shop owner, is a genius when it comes to buying for her shop. Growing up in Hawaii, Brigitte was constantly surrounded by babes in bikinis. After trying out the corporate world for a bit, she decided it was time to go out on her own and pursue her dream. Fast forward a little and that's how Still & Sea came to be! Her shop carries brands such as Frankie's Bikinis, Basta Surf, Lisa Lozano and her favorite Acacia Swimwear. You can bet your bottom dollar I left the trunk show with some adorable swimsuits of my own! ;)

Pictured above is a Frankie's Bikini along with the LPOH Harlow Necklace, and Stevie Necklace

H O P E Farmers Market - Weekend 1

This Sunday I had the pleasure to sell my jewelry at Hope Farmers Market in Austin, Texas. I was a bit nervous at first since I haven't ever participated in an actual Farmers Market. Luckily, the vendors and employees of Hope Farmers Market were so friendly I was put at ease in a instant.

The morning started off with a Kids Shakespeare play, Hamlet, put on by The ImprovEd Shakespeare Company. The day then followed with friends and family. I couldn't believe how many of my loved ones stopped by to hang out with me for the day. I couldn't have done ANY of the setting up or taking down without them. Not to mention, they all continued to stay and help even though it was 91 degrees outside! Yes, 91 degrees in NOVEMBER. I couldn't believe it.

I was able to meet so many new people, and get a glimpse of how tight-knit this community really is. In this industry I have definitely experienced competition among other small business vendors, but at HOPE it is a completely different story. Each of the vendors made sure to do a loop of the market to see and introduce themselves to all the new booths. At the end of the day during the meeting, it was so clear that all of the vendors were rooting each other on. They genuinely want to see everyone succeed within the farmers market, in order to continue to do what we each love so much. To see how close they really were was absolutely heart warming.

Some of my favorite vendors included...

Austin Honey Co - When we first began to set up my family was having a bit trouble with the tent. Without even hesitating Raul, the owner of Austin Honey Co, quickly came over to assist us and teach us the tricks of the trade. We definitely made sure to stop over to his booth once the market began to pick up some of his local pure honey. Austin Honey Company takes a nourishing blend of local pollens and nectars to create their delicious honey. Austin is known to have terrible allergy seasons, so I am very thankful to have some local honey to help put my allergies at ease. Take a peek at their Facebook here.

Healthy Hound - This booth definitely seemed like a customer favorite. So many of the Sunday shoppers brought along their furry friends. Healthy Hound made sure to provide tasty treats to these cute pups. My sister even bought her 2 little dogs some of the Healthy Hound Chicken Breast Treats. They use 100% natural ingredients, no preservatives and no corn.

Curious Confections - If you have a sweet tooth Curious Confections is the place for you. This booth had some of the best marshmallows I have ever eaten. They were so good we even left the market with a few packages of them. We brought home the Honey Marshmallows, and the Maple Melts, aka the "Marshmallow's Canadian Cousin". And let me tell you, these are absolutely divine. Just as the name says, they literally will melt right on your tongue.

Find more of the Hope Farmers Market vendors here.

If you missed this Sunday's farmers market you are not to worry, I will be there again this Sunday, November 24th, from 11am-3pm. So all you Austinites should definitely swing by. There are so many lovely people to meet and not to mention fresh produce. Supporting local businesses is so very important. You keep the money you spend in your community. Helping farmers and artists continue to live their dream and provide the best quality food and crafts to you.
