The Sunday Collection // Inspiration

For each collection I like to put together my version of a Little Pieces of Hope "look book" for retailers, as well as customers, to get a better feel of the Collection as a whole, and to see what inspired me throughout my designing journey.

For Spring 2015, I was inspired by my favorite day...Sunday. To me Sundays are meant for living. Whether living is sleeping in and staying cozy in bed all day, or waking up early and going on adventures, it's up to you! Each Sunday is different for me, but consistent in the sense that it's a day for the little things in life.

"Someone once told me to always live for the little things in life. Live for the 5 a.m. sunrises and the 5 p.m. sunsets where you'll see colors in the sky that don't usually belong. Live for the road trips and bike rides with music in your ears, and the wind in your hair. Live for days when you're surrounded by your favorite people who make you realize that the world is not a cold, harsh place. Live for the little things because they will make you realize that this is what life is about.

After surviving the Winter months, I wanted to make the Spring Collection light and airy. The majority of the pieces are meant to be worn alone in hopes to focus on the simplicity, and details of each item. A Little Pieces of Hope approach at minimalism, if you will ;) 

I'm hoping to officially launch the Sunday collection on February 4th, so keep an eye out!

Over the past few weeks I have had the wonderful opportunity to work with a beautiful soul named Jensen.

Jensen, who currently lives in Fort Collins, Colorado, approached me before the Holidays asking if I would be interested in doing a collaboration fundraiser for a cause that is near and dear to her heart.

She then described how she herself is suffering from a life altering chronic disease known as, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (I know, quite the mouthful!) She went to almost 25 different doctors in the span of a year, only to find 2 doctors that were willing to help and take the time to understand this complex disease. After hearing this, I immediately turned to Google to learn more. 

Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) is a devastating disorder which is more commonly known as CFS for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. CFS is a severe, and complex neurological disease that affects all body systems. The common symptoms of ME/CFS include mental or physical exertion, unrefreshing sleep, concentration problems and muscle pain.

Jensen explained that there is a lot of suicide involved with ME, because people are not aware how severe this disease really is. She then stated that ME is more common overseas in countries such as Australia, and areas around the UK, with it slowly becoming bigger in U.S. After being diagnosed with ME, Jensen knew she had to help others who were suffering from this disease with her main goal being to bring awareness for ME/CFS in a non-aggressive way. 

Since ME/CFS is such a controversial disease in the U.S, with only a handful of doctors taking the time to understand, it means lots of samples, tests and blood work. After many doctor appointments, Jensen realized she was only able to get blood drawn from her right elbow. She considered that elbow her "lucky charm" as it was helping her get results and ultimately feel better. Weeks later, she got a tattoo of a wishbone to commemorate her lucky charm, and to inform Doctors on where to draw blood.

After a few years of raising awareness for ME/CFS, and building a social media following, Jensen wanted to take it one step further to help find a cure. That's where Little Pieces of Hope comes in! ;) 

With the help of Jensen, Little Pieces of Hope has come up with a few items to launch the Wishbone Collection and fundraise for the Solve ME/CFS Initiative. After all, once you choose Hope, anything is possible. 

Thank you so much Jensen for allowing me to be apart of ME/CFS awareness. You are such a strong, and beautiful woman and I love how you don't let ME/CFS define you. I'm sure even on your worst days, you are still looking as cute as ever in your stylish wardrobe. Thanks again for this amazing opportunity!

LPOH + Charity: Water September Campaign

Happy New Year! Can you believe it's already 2015?! 

The last few weeks of 2014 were wild for Little Pieces of Hope. Thanks to all of our beautiful customers and supporters, we were able to donate an additional $460 to the LPOH + Charity: Water September Campaign. Making the grand total a whopping $1766! 

Because of you and your support, people throughout the Sahel Region of West Africa will be getting clean water for life. How amazing is that?!

Throughout the next 21 months, Charity: Water will send us information, pictures and GPS coordinates of where our upcoming water well will be built.

As for our January charity, we will be sending our proceeds to....AUSTIN PETS ALIVE!

Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday: A global day dedicated to giving back. Today charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give. 

Yesterday I was tagged by @ashleyakeila on Instagram to share a cause I strongly believe in. Of course there are many causes and companies I hold dear to my heart, as I have partnered up with a variety of non-profit organizations. However, there is one company I have yet to team up with that I wanted to share. 

In my family we have always had an abundance of animals...mainly cats and dogs. At one point, we actually had FIVE dogs living in our house (I promise we aren't animal hoarders) My family and I have been raised to love animals of all kinds. Thanks to my sister, who is also my roomie, I have turned into that crazy hippie lady who catches all the rogue moths in the house with a cup and paper to let it free outside, rather than killing it. I know, it's crazy... Sometimes I can't even believe I'm doing it.

The company I want to share today also believes in saving animals. Austin Pets Alive! is a local animal shelter here in Austin that uses innovative and comprehensive programs to help save Austin's adoptable dogs and cats. Founder, Dr. Ellen Jefferson's, main goal is to see the end of killing of homeless pets in Austin, Central Texas, and the entire country. 

In 2008, APA! embarked on a bold and aggressive initiative to make Austin a no-kill city as fast as possible. Before 2008, the city of Austin was euthanizing over 50% of the animals that came through the shelter each year. By February 2011, Austin was able to reach the  nationally accepted standard for a no-kill community of 90%. Thanks to APA! Austin has earned the title of the "Largest No-Kill City in America". Just this year, they were able to celebrate 3 years as a no-kill city! Truly unbelievable.

 I wanted to take a quick second to show you some of the pups available for either adoption, or sponsorship.

This here is Mustang Sally. Super smart, super athletic, and super cute. Unfortunately, Mustang Sally was a victim of serious neglect early in life. At first, she had a hard time meeting strangers as she didn't quite trust them. Lucky for us, she has come a long way and now loves to meet new people. 

This is Sunday. She is a fun-loving and wiggly pup. She is a little nervous at the shelter, like a lot of her friends are, but once she gets to a quieter area she is full of life! She loves playing with balls, chew toys, other dogs or even rocks ;) 

This pup's name is Tortilla...so adorable, right!? He is full of affection, playfulness and good manners. He loves to be loved, and he wiggles all around when he greets you. He loves going on a good walk, or even just lounging right next to you.
